About

Pedro M. Afonso is a Portuguese visual artist, with a degree on Technology of Audiovisual Communication at Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design at Porto. Born in Braga, from an early age he demonstrated a great passion for the area of Cinema, having a background in academic research in the areas of Image, Semiotics and Sound, which allowed him to guarantee a set of essential resources for the cinematographic practice.


Founding member of ORCA (Orchestra of Robots, Computers and Speakers), he has participated in several academic conferences and work shows, having several publications in the Audiovisual area, where we highlight the article "Fritz Lang: the World through the monocle of Modernism" and the photobook "Specialty: Burnout", among other collaborations.


He directed his first short film in 2020, entitled "The Swap", as part of his degree, and received nominations from several national and international festivals, such as the Sophia Student Awards from the Portuguese Academy of Cinema, Caminhos de Cinema Português, YMOTION, CRASH - Mostra Internacional de Cinema Fantástico, FICBC - Balneário Camboriú International Film Festival, among others).


Despite his short career, he already has experience in the industry as Assistant Director in the feature film "A Vida Fantástica de Sofia" by José Alberto Pinheiro, and participation in several commissioned projects with production companies like Filmes da Mente, Amazing Rabbit and ETHNO.


Currently, he’s working as Editor and Assistant Director at Estúdio Imigrante in Porto, having already developed content for communication agencies like Partners and Volta Brand, and companies like Deeply and BUZINA.
